Devlekh Fm

Period:
Jurassic

Age Interval:
Sinemurian (T? —J? dv), M2

Province:
SE Tajik (SE Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

Includes in SE Murghab district (Istyk type Dunkeldyk area). It was distinguished by V. P. Bulin and G. V. Kuznetsov in 1968.

Synonym: Devlekh suite, Девлехская свита

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

The section of the Fm, from bottom to top: 1 - massive dark gray limestones (200 m); 2 - black kerogenized shales (100 m); 3 - thinly-bedded marbleized limestones (200 m); 4 - altered basic effusives with interlayers of shales and small-gravel conglomerates (200 m). The incomplete thickness is 700 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The contacts of the Devlekh Fm (девлехской свиты) are tectonic. Only in the upper reaches of the Gidrara river, it lies with an angular unconformity on black sandstones and shales, attributed by position in the section to the Norian-Rhaetian Istyk Fm.

Upper contact

Overlying deposits are unknown.

Regional extent

It is widespread in the western part of the Southeastern Pamir on the northwest slopes of the Rushan Range in the basins of the Devlekh and Raumid rivers. It occupies small areas.

Fossils

Organic remains in the suite have not been found.

Age

The Triassic, and rather Jurassic age of the Devlekh Fm is assumed based on its position above the Norian-Rhaetian (to some extent hypothetical) and some similarity of the dark limestones existing in it with the limestones of the Gurmudin Fm of the Sinemurian stage. The Devlekh Fm and the areas of its outcrops are poorly studied.
